Well, The Sign DID Say 'No Trespassing'...

Along the road she was walking t'wards home
Living her life without a single care
However, this was a new path today
She quickly got lost, and a little scared

After a while, she found a warm cottage
Filled with lots of porridge, sofas, and beds
She briefly took a break from her voyage
And ate a large meal and rested her head

Once she was out, the owners returned home
To find the aftermath of her hunger
To search for clues of what happened, they roamed
And found the culprit sleeping off her blunder

To make up for having food no longer,
They ate young Goldilocks to rid their hunger.

  1. I love that you revisited the classic tale of Goldilocks and her Three Bears! I'm definitely liking your ending much much better. That little sneaky porridge thief had it coming to her! Thank you for always employing humor in your writing, it's refreshing.

  2. Oh man, I love trespassing. I guess I should learn my lesson...! :)

This was a funny topic to write about, and although the iambic pentameter sometimes gave you grief, in general you did a nice job wrangling the story into a sonnet form! At some point, it would be fun to see you rewrite another fairy tale and choose any rhyme scheme you chose, not necessarily forcing yourself into the rather serious sonnet form. Mother Goose and Dr. Seuss frolicked all over the place with their sing-songs, making the meter work as they deemed fit. This is the perfect topic to employ an unruly rakish meter with! :) As I said though, you made it work with the sonnet, and the ending couplet soundly finishes off Miss Goldilocks!

  3. I love the mixture of comedy and tragedy Nathan. You'd be a great playwright!

  4. Nathan I love this remastering of a classic. This reminds me of the book Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead. It is a remake of a popular story with an added twist whether that is comedy or seriousness.
